NORTH-EAST HARBOUR CLUB YEAR'S OPERATIONS SURVEYED The annual report of the North-east Harbour Boating Club, to he presented at the annual meeting on Tuesday night, states, inter alia; — The committee is pleased to show that the past season has been a success financially. During the year considerable alterations and repairs were carried out on the club’s property, including a room for committee meetings and use of officials during special functions. Club members and boa* owners will be pleased to see that the committee have been able to provide a new cradle for the slipway. The club is indebted to Mr F. Percy, sen., for his valuable assistance in the erection of the cradle. shown on the balance sheet presented, the sum of over £2B has been expended on repairs to the property, principally for material used, tbe labour in connection with the alterations being provided by tbe committee and members of the club. Arrangements were made between the committee and the Otago Swim’ming Centre to assist in carrying out their two harbour swims —namely, the Batt and Annette Kellerman Cups, which were witnessed by a large number of spectators, particularly the latter event, which attracted competitors from Auckland to tbe Bluff. The club’s assistance was much appreciated by the Swimming Centre. The club’s course was freely commented upon by visitors as the best open water course in ■ New Zealand. It is hoped that the fine spirit existing between the two bodies will long continue. The usual series of yacht and motex* boat races were carried out. Unfortunately two of the days allotted to tbe club for races had to be abondoned owing to regatta fixtures being arranged on tbe dates allotted. Presentation of prizes won during the season was made by Commodore Watson (Port Chalmers) at a successful dance held on September 2. A meeting of representatives of all clubs was arranged by the committee, to discuss ways and means of creating better feeling and improving the sport generally. This meeting was-attended by 17 representatives of all clubs on tbe harbour, but one. It is hoped that an improvement will be the result of this meeting. The annual ladies’ day outing was arranged for February 23, but owing to adverse weather conditions, was postponed and took place on March 8. Several launches conveyed full complements of passengers to the fish hatcheries, where an euoyable day was spent. It is to be regretted that the club is losing the services of two valued and esteemed officials in the hon. secretary (Mr E. O. Yates) and the treasurer (Mr E. Hook), who have served the club successfully during the past years.
