GOLD AND CHANGEABLE The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts —Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon : Bay:— l A series of secondary depressions is crossing the Dominion, but pressure is high over Australia and the North Tasman Sea. Forecast: Moderate to strong westerly winds, turning again, shortly to south-west. Weather cold, and changeable, with passing showers. Hail in places and snow on the ranges. Seas moderate, but rising. FINE AND SUNNY. At 2.46 p.m. yesterday afternoon a sudden change' to • stormy conditions was experienced, and after a roll of thunder sleet commenced! to fall heavily. The fall ceased as suddenly as it commenced, however, andi the registration was only .13in. Last evening a frost of 3.6 de- formed, and this morning broke fine and sunny, with a cool south-westerly breeze in evidence. Temperatures to-day show an advance since yesterday, the maxima being 53.5 and SOdeg respectively, with 46 and 44deg the minima until 12.30 p.m. The registrations for a 24-hour period yesterday were- 54.5 and 35.5 deg. At 1 p.m. to-day the barometer showed a steady-pressure of 29.55 in, and indications were favourable, the afternoon promising to be fine and sunny.
