ART EXHIBITION
The beautiful oil paintings and water colours being shown in Pioneer Hall by Mr E. Barnett, of Haymarket, London, are still attracting their share of public patronage, but, as the exhibition will close in a few days, it behoves all those art lovers who have not yet paid a visit of inspection to do so without delay. Recent sales include :— ‘ The Seamstress,’ by J. W. Haynes; a landscape, ‘ Old Cottages at Richmond,’ by A. J. Allison; ‘ A Landscape at Kingston,’ by J. Horace Hooper; and a coast scene, ‘ Mount’s Bay, Cornwall,’ by De Breanski, R.B.A. There are still many beautiful pictures left, however, among those attracting a great deal of attention and admiration being:—‘At Thorpe, Dovedale,’ by E. J._ Niemann; ‘ Boisover Castle, Derbyshire,’ by James Poole; ‘On the Rothay, Ambleside,’ by E. W. Hulme; a very fine Highland scene, ‘ Glen Arisaig, N.8.,’ by Horatio MacCullooh; and ‘ Inverary, N.8.,’ by A. F. Rolfe. Asked what kind of picture appeals mostly to the people of Dunedin, Mr Barnett said they seemed to prefer the meticulously painted picture that contains plenty of detail. The exhibition is open from 9 a.m. until G p m.
