BEES SWARM ON HEADLAMP
BOY COLLECTS THEM WITHOUT CASUALTY [Pzit United Press Association.! AUCKLAND, September 25. A swarm of bees which alighted on a truck parked in Upper Queen street attracted the delighted attention of a number of pupils of the neighbouring Newton manual training centre. Where the bees came from nobody knew, but they alighted on the truck, and took possession, swarming over the bonnet, and finally choosing a headlamp as their headquarters. A boy who had had experience in handling bees thereupon took charge of the situation, and, obtaining a box, succeeded in transferring the majority of the bees into it. A large number remained on the roadway, however, and these he proceeded to sweep on to a pan with a soft brush ahd deposit in the box, while an admiring crowd of passers-by and pupils ivatched the_ process somewhat warily, with occasional uneasy starts as one of the flying insects alighted on them. One or two of the more daring spirits among the boys eventually wont to the assistance of their fellow, and the swarm was enclosed in the box. The hero of the episode received one or two stings, which were promptly treated with washing bbrn by girl pupils, but the bees were apparently mild-man-nered, for, although a considerable crowd of onlookers were sometimes enveloped in a flying cloud of them, there wore no further casualties. . The captor of the bees expressed his intention of taking them home to augment the swarms he already had..
