HIBERNIAN DEBATING CLUB
»- " FREE DISCUSSION " NIGHT A “ free discussion” evening was held at the Dunedin Hibernian Social and Debating Club rooms on Monday evening last. The subjects chosen were very interesting, and were dealt with from many different points of view. The supporters of modern wrestling praised it as a healthy and entertaining sport, while its opponents deplored the introduction of showmanship and illegal tactics. The revolution in Spain, according to some speakers, was an unjustifiable attack on a duly elected Government, and, according to others, a praiseworthy endeavour to crush the enemies of religion. Modern divorce laws, with their easy facility for putting an end to marriage, were condemned because of their evil effect on family life and consequent to the well-being of the comniunity. Finally, the necessity for acquiring reliable information before speaking or writing on any subject received the unanimous approval of those present. The speakers who took part were Messrs F. G. Brown, N. Jolly. R. A. King, J. J. Kennedy, H. Cullen, W. M'Alevey, and M. Moloney.
