SENSATIONAL JUMP
FRENCH BANK RATE RAISED TO CHECK GOLD OUTFLOW Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright PARIS, September 24. (Received September 25, at 10 a.m.) The bank rate has been raised to 5 per cent. The sensational jump is intended to check the outflow of gold. It is estimated that £8,660,000 was exported last week. The total since the beginning of August is £26,600,000. (Received September 25, at noon.) hollowing the news that the Bank of France has raised the rate of discount to 5 per cent., the French franc, which earlier had shown weakness, rallied somewhat on the foreign exchange market. The bank return shows an increase in note circulation of £242,000, which City commentators incline to attribute chiefly to buying by French boarders.
