OPENING DEBATE TO-DAY ELECTION OF NEW COUNCIL NEXT WEDNESDAY (British Official Wireless.) Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright RUGBY; September 24. (Received September 25, at noon.) The Assembly of the. League of Nations met to elect six vice-presidents, and out of the 52 countries voting Franco received 49, Britain 47, Yugoslavia 44, Canada 39, Russia 35, and Italy 32. The election of the new League Council will take place on Wednesday. To-day the First Committee of the Assembly discussed the increase in the number of non-permanent Council seats and the reservation of an extra seat for an Asiatic Power. To-morrow a general debate opens the Assembly.
