HOSPITAL BOARD'S RESPONSIBILITIES CONFLICTING IDEAS OF DISCIPLINE NECESSARY [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, September 25. The lack of accommodation for nurses at the Wellington Hospital provided members of the board with an opportunity to express opinions on the conduct of nurses and the_ behaviour of the modern girl. The discussion arose when a proposal to erect a wooden building on the old tennis court was introduced. , Mr F. Castle said that the Health Department had suggested that some of the nurses could live out pending the completion of the nurses’ new home in about two years’ time. However, some of the people on the staff were not prepared to treat the nurses ns women, but must have them under their wing and discipline. Mrs A. M‘Vicar; Nothing of the kind. Some of the nurses come from country districts, and if I had a daughter nursing I should be uneasy if I thought she would be sent to any other place than a hospital. Miss A. G. Kane: Nurses are able to look after themselves just as much as other young women from the country. The young woman of to-day between 18 and 20 years of age is very different from the girl of the same age of 20, years ago. , A woman member: They certainly are! Male members: They re just as charming.
