ALBION CLUB'S MEETING
The annual meeting of the Alhion Ladies’ Cricket Club was hold last night, Mr W. G. Pickard presiding over a good attendance. ANNUAL REPORT. Presenting the annual report, the chairman said that from every point of view the season under review was a most enjoyable one, and although the club’s team did not meet with a great deal of success on the playing field, the committee feels sure that the members derived considerable benefit from the matches played. Ho congratulated Misses M. I low ley and D. Mcder on bringing honours to the club through their selection for the Otago representative team which played Canterbury at Dunedin. In this match the committee was pleased to see Miss Hazel Johnson performing well for the visitors. The practices throughout the season were well attended, and in this respect the committee was indebted to the Albion men’s club for the use of a section of Logan Park and for assistance rendered in the matter of coaching. Regarding the performances of individual members of the team, the committee was pleased to note a steady
improvement in the standard of hatting and bowling, but desires to impress upon members the necessity lor closer attention to fielding, which was responsible for quite a number of games being lost. Members would be pleased to note that the committee was a , e ,* show a useful credit balance, and that the club had a good stock of material. It was intended in the coming season to purchase a net for practice. He congratulated Miss Elma Sinclair on being selected to prepare for a visit to Australia next season with the New Zealand basketball team. Two other members, Misses Burt and Bewley, had represented Otago at hockey, and Mr Pickard congratulated them on their success. Thanks were due to Mrs “• Stanley Smith, Mrs Gray, and Mr C. Hart for donations to the club’s funds, and to all those who had assisted in other directions. He appealed to members to do their best to increase the membership during the coming season, OFFICE-BEARERS. The following office-bearers were appointed for the ensuing yeir; President, Mr W. G. Pickard; vice-presi-dents—Mesdames C. Stanley Smith, J. J. Clark, V. Robinson, J. .Shepherd, H. J. Duncan, D. Murray, O. Gray, O. Hart, and Messrs Meder, Connell, H. Yorrath, V. Robinson, W. Smith, and G. Bertonshaw; secretary and treasurer, Miss D. Meder; committee —Misses M. Grant, M. Bewley, O. Gray, E. Sinclair, and M. Sandy; club captain, Miss M. Bewley; deputy-captain, Miss O. Gray; delegates to the Ladies’ Cricket Association, Misses D. Meder (executive) and K. Eckhoff (committee). GENERAL. Two trophies given to the club by the president were presented as follows: —
To Miss M. Bewley, who headed both the batting and bowling averages; and to Miss Elma Sinclair, the most improved player during the season. Trophies for the coming season were offered by Mr and Mrs C. Hart. It was decided that the club open the season on the same day as the Albion men’s club—October 3.
