HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS' CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the High School Old Boys’ Cricket Club was held last night, Mr W. R. Brinsley, sen., presiding over a good attendance of members. , CHAIRMAN’S REMARKS. Moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet the Chairman expressed gratification at the .improvement in the state of the club’s finances. The club was fortunate in its possession of a very capable body of administrators, and it was largely owing to their efforts that a healthy balance sheet had been made, practicable. From a playing point of view, also, the club had enjoyed a most successful season, and this despite the fact that the weather conditions had been the worst for many years. The club had been handicapped in past years by the lack of a suitable practice ground, but, he was pleased to say, this difficulty had now been overcome, arrangements being in train for the leasing of Tonga Park. He struck an optimistic note by_ saying that with the improved playing facilities which ■would in future be available, the club should have an even more prosperous season. Mr D. A. Solomon, who (Seconded the motion, stressed the necessity for continual practice if the club was to retain its present position in club cricket. He pad a tribute to the diligence of the office-bearers, and congratulated the winners, of the various trophies. The motion was carried. PRESENTATIONS. Trophies were presented to Messrs' G. Mills, R. G. Mahony, D. P. Anderson, and W. A. Sharp. A bat presented by Mr Walter Strang and two other trophies were held over to be awarded at the discretion of the committee, OFFICE-BEARERS. The election of office-bearers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: Joint patrons, Mr H. P. Kidson and Mr W. J. Morrell; vice-patrons—Mrs F. Holmes, Messrs F. IT. Campbell, E. Brinsley, sen.; senior vice-pre-sident,'Mr D. A. Solomon; vice-presi-dents—Messrs E. J. Smith, H. Eckhoff, E. H. Downes, L. A. Rhodes, and W. F. Walters; club captain, Mr G, Mills; deputy-club captain, Mr J. B. Clark; secretary, Mr J. A. Smith; treasurer, Mr C. J. Martin; solo selector, Mr J. B. Clark; committee— Messrs R. G. Mahony, J,. A. Giles, O. R. Payne, A. C. Graham, L. J. Groves, N. Russell; auditor, Mr G. Edwards. Jt was decided that the appointment of an entertainment committee be left in the hands of the incoming committee
GENERAL. It was decided that the delegates to the Otago Cricket Association be instructed to inform the association that the club would be unable to field & team for all-day play on Saturdays, and that the members were definitely opposed to the scheme. A decision as to the desirability of promoting smoke concerts was left in the hands of the Club Committee. It was decided that the question of an increase in subscriptions bo dealt with by the committee. Four new members were elected. The official opening was fixed for Saturday', October 3.
