STRAND

Entertainment on a bright and cheerful note is provided by the new programme at the Strand. There are two full-length films, with ‘ Don’t Get Personal ’ starring Sally Eilers and James Dunn, as the main attraction. The supporting feature is ‘My Song Goes Round the World,’ introducing Joseph Schmidt to Dunedin audiences. Romance and comedy are closely allied in ‘ Don’t Get Personal,’ a story which provides the two young stars with plenty of scope to display their talents. The plot is of the lightest and most attractive order, and no effort has been spared by the producers to keep the’ humour—with _ a touch of drama—smoothly running. There is a laughable auction sale at the opening of the story, with two young people offering themselves to the highest bidder. A spinster with a determined gleam in her eye is about to make a claim on them, when the intervention of a third person completely changes the course of their lives. Romance takes a hand, and a delightfully amusing story reaches a happy conclusion. His voice adored by thousands—his vocal* fame encircles the ' globe—Joseph Schmidt, golden-voiced tenor, who has thrilled you on record and radio, now comes to delight you in his first film, ‘My Song Goes Round the World,’ a charmfilled musical romance set in the gay city of Venice. ‘My Song Goes Round the World ’ will be the associate feature in this programme.
