INTOXICATED MOTORIST [Per United Press Association.] BLENHEIM, September 23. Only the fact of his previous good character saved William John Cassidy, aged 26, a labourer, from a term of imprisonment when he was convicted in the Magistrate’s Court this afternoon on a charge of being intoxicated in charge of a motor car. Cassidy vyas fined £ls and disqualified from holding a license for three years. The magistrate also took into account the circumstances that the accused suffered considerable injury when his car capsized down a bank near Seddon, where be was driving in an intoxicated condition to Wharanui. Cassidy’s two companions also suffered injury, and, according to the police, they were still intoxicated when taken to hospital. “ These cases appear to bo on the increase, despite what magistrates are saying.” said the Bench. “It must be remembered that in these cases imprisonment may now be imposed.”
