TRAINING FOR INDUSTRY

* CONFERENCE SUGGESTIONS [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, September 23. A new system for training young people for industry to replace or supplement apprenticeship as formerly organised was recommended by the conference after the suggestions made by the Minister had been considered. It was resolved —“ That the organisation of the technical colleges is suitable for the development of trade education on a full-time trade basis analogous tq apprenticeship, but with adequate provision for continued education. To enable any scheme of instruction to operate successfully it will be necessary to alter the present industrial system to enable the recognition of such training by industrial associations and the acceptance of accredited students by trades. Control of the instruction should be completely in the hands of the educational authorities, but the Ministry of Labour should assist by the provision of. modern equipment and additional material.
