There was a moderate selection, consisting chiefly of cross-hreds, which sold well at full current rates, mainly to the home trade. Inferior merinos were frequently withdrawn. Our Auckland correspondent telegraphs: —After moderate business at the last call yesterday, the exchange reopened quietly, only five sales being recorded at the first call. Government stocks were again in active demand, and 1946’s had a sale at £lO3 15s. Subsequently' sellers asked £lO4 2s 6d, while 1940’s were on offer at £lO2 and 1955’s at £lO3. A few more buyers appeared in the banking section, but no business was done. New Zealands were quoted between 38s and 39s 3d. An upward move was made in National Insurances, buyers raising their limits to 18s 7d. sellers being at 18s Bd. In Australian issues Goldsbrougbs and Broken Hills were both quoted lower, the former from 33s 3d to 345, and the latter between 75s 3d and 75s 9d. Woolworths improved, with buyers at £5 and sellers 3s higher. Bank of New Zealand Debenture Stock was quoted £lO2 and £lO3.
