ISLAND IN THE DANUBE Mr M. Gellcr, a mild-mannered elderly Hungarian, lias made Budapest the honeymoon city of Europe. He is an hotel and land owner, the power that makes foreigners feel welcome in Budapest (writes a correspondent of th« ‘ Sunday Express,’ London). We sat and drank cooling drinks on the banks of the Danube. Around ,ua was many an English voice. Geller listened with pleasure. “ You know,”-ha said, “ this is a beautiful city. But for years few foreigners, especially English, visited it. It puzzled mo.” He twisted his grey moustache. “ I decided to find out why. “ 1 visited London, Paris, New York, Cannes, Monte Carlo, Vienna, Berlin, Most people liked the city. ' There is an island in the Danube called the Margitziget. It is like your Kensington Gardens, and about the size. “I leased it from the municipality, ulanted more than a million shrubs, built hotels, a night dub, a gipsy restaurant, and a swimming poo!. Now it is a summer resort right in the heart of the city. There have never before been so many foreigners, especially English, in the city. And there are many honeymoon couples. It is becoming a honey* moon country,’-!
