POLICE COURT
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) BREAKING AND ENTERING CHARGES. Stanley George, James Murray (19) and Rolfe Jefferson Shirretfs (17) were charged with breaking and entering the warehouse of S.lrgood, Son, and Ewen on September 22 and committing theft. Chief-detective Young applied for a remand for a week. In asking for bail, Mr C. J. L. White, who appeared for the accused, said that the parents were beside themselves with grief over the matter. They had no idea what was going on. Mr Young said that there would be approximately 12 charges of breaking and entering against, the accused. They were employed on night work, and had been committing these offences after they knocked oft work at 5 a.m., a lad of 15 being associated with them. The accused were admitted to bail, each in his own recognisance of £SO and one surety of £SO each, provisional upon their reporting twice daily to the police. Mr White asked for suppression of the names till the facts were gone into, but the Magistrate said he could make no order for suppression. MOTORIST REMANDED. N A middle-aged man whoso name was suppressed until the facts are gone into was charged with being in charge of a motor car on Princes street while in a state of intoxication. Mr White, who appeared for the accused, asked for a remand for a week, the application being granted. Bail was allowed in the accused’s own recognisance of £35, and on the application of counsel the name .was suppressed as above stated.
