CORRESPONDENCE

BANDS AT FOOTBALL MATCHES.

TO TUB EDITOR. Sir, —As a regular attender at the shield matches, and also a lover of band music, I would like to know what is the matter with our local band? Last Saturday the remark on the terrace was that there might as well, not be a band present as far as hearing it on the terrace was concerned. Why do they not give a march around the ground, say, before the big match, and again at half-time ? They can easily be ready to step off as soon as the curtainraiser is over, not \y;ait till it is finished and then start to assemble. If a band wants to find favour with the public it must deliver the goods. It was a treat to see the Christchurch band take up its position in the centre of the field and play ‘ God Save the King.’ I would recommend our band to do the same, and, above all, let the people join in and sing.—l am, etc., Terrace. September 22.
