OCTAGON
Two excellent films are being shown at the Octagon this week, these being ‘ One New York 'Night ’ and ‘ After Office Hours.’ Clark Gable and Constance Bennett are associated in the latter production. Gable being cast as the editor of a New York newspaper, with Constance Bennett as a wealthy member of the social sot who is on the staff of Gable’s paper. Gable is determined to wreck the political hopes of a prominent lawyer, and tries to use bis reporter to gain the evidence he wants; but she is unwilling to be a tool and refuses to make use of her acquaintance with the lawyer. It is when the murder of a. woman with whom the lawyer is closely associated occurs that Gable determines to go to the fullest lengths to secure a conviction against the lawyer. Ho succeeds, and the difficulties between ; the editor ami his reporter are
smoothed out in the conventional way. There is plenty of crisp, witty dialogue, and an abundance of acceptable humour throughout the production. One New York night,’ with Una Merkel and Franchot Tone in tho principal roles, embodies brilliant dialogue, an absorbing mystery, and innumerable situations of an hilarious character.
