During a brief stay in Paris on the way to Geneva Mr Eden was received by M. Blum. No details of the conversations have been made public, but M. Blum later informed the Press that they had discussed the general situation and the work of the League of Nations and that they were much pleased with their talk. The newspapers assume that prepara, tion for the proposed Five-Power Conference was one of the principal subjects of the discussion and that anxious examination was also given to the Spanish problem, with particular reference to the attitude of Portugal towards the International Committee for application of the agreement on nonintervention. CREDENTIALS COMMITTEE ABYSSINIA DEEPLY INTERESTED. GENEVA, September 21. (Received September 22, at 11 a.m.) The voting for the election of a Credentials Committee was secret at the request of Abyssinia. Mr W. J. Jordan recorded New Zealand’s vote. The Abyssinians are gratified that Mr Eden and M. Litvinoff headed the list with 47 votes each. M. Dclbos had 46. Mr Jordan, whom the Abyssinians likewise expect to be favourable to them, was eighth with 40 votes. lie will also serve on the committee. The Credentials Committee later net and postponed a decision as to whether the Abyssinians should he excluded from future meetings of the J eaguo Assembly. Meanwhile Abyssinia wu remain in the Assembly. Senor Saavedra Lamas, Argentine Foreign Minister, was elected president of the Assembly. Abyssinia participated in the voting. ITALY UNREPRESENTED ETHIOPIA’S CREDENTIALS NOT ACCEPTED. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 21. (Received September 22, at noon.) At the Assembly of tr.e League of Nations Italy was not represented. The Credentials Committee met today and accepted the credentials of all delegates other than Ethiopia's.
