Rebel defenders of Alcazar put ap stout resistance, despite showers of shells, bombs, and hand grenades. Spanish War Ministry orders all militiamen, armed or unarmed, to report to barracks immediately. Air Lloyd George declares that Germany does not desire to attack any country in Europe. Nine persons were killed recently by inhaling poisonous gas fumes from a fire which broke out in a mine near Douquoin, Illinois. Three young men were recently killed by lightning when standing in the doorway of their house at Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia. Fire due, it is believed, to spontaneous combustion, recently destroyed one of the powder magazines in the island of Leros, Dodecanese.
