EIGHTH SHIELD GAME NEXT SATURDAY MATCH WITH WEST COAST Advice was received at the meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Union last night that the AVest Coast team, which will play Otago at Carisbrook on Saturday in the eighth Ranfurly Shield match of the season, will arrive in Dunedin on Thursday night, the manager being Sir Alan Adams. SUB-UNION’S REQUEST. The Secretary of the Eastern Districts Sub-union wrote stating that at an extraordinary meeting of delegates of clubs on September 17 the following motion was carried:—“ That in the interests of football in this district the Eastern District Rugby Sub-union take steps to join up with the North Otago Union as a part of that union, and that the Otago Union be advised accordingly. It was stated that the olubs associated with the Eastern Districts Sub-
union were Waikouaiti, Seacliff, Dun-, back, Palmerston, Macraes, and a Maori club from Karitane. Mr Harris said the teams were within the Otago Union’s boundaries, which were fixed by the New Zealand Union, and had no right to affiliate with any other union. Mr Spedding asked how the meeting which passed the motion was constituted. He understood that the players were definitely opposed to it. The letter, answered the Chairman, said the meeting was an extraordinary meeting of delegates of the clubs. Mr Jolly said he thought no other sub-union had been as well treated as the Eastern Districts Sub-union. They had given them referees and more matches than other sub-unions. Mr Harris said the duty of the Otago Union was to foster the game in its district. That was the first they had heard of the sub-union having any grievance, and ho failed to see how they would be any better off by joining Oainaru. It was decided to write to the Eastern Districts Sub-union pointing out that, until the boundaries were altered by tho New Zealand Union, the Otago Union could not agree to the request. It was also decided to ask for a copy of the minutes of the meeting. TRANSFER SOUGHT. 0. R. Bolton, a junior player, applied for a transfer from Southern to Kaikorai.—To be ‘.considered in six months’ time, in accordance with the rules. THAT AUCKLAND LOAN. My committee is pleased to accept your offer of a loan of £IOO, free of interest, and repayable when your team again visits Auckland. Your assistance in the matter of the loan is much appreciated. It is a pity that so much publicity was given to our correspondence, and rest assured that nothing but the most pleasant feelings exist for your union, and wo look forward to your next visit with very much pleasure.” The letter was received with expressions of satisfaction at its tone.
