HOMEWORK QUESTIONNAIRE
MODICUM FAVOURED BY MOST TEACHERS AND PARENTS [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, September 21. The admission that they help their children with their homework was made by about 550 of the 800 parents who replied to a questionnaire on the matter of homework recently circulated by the Auckland Head Masters’ Association. In an effort to reach various conclusions about homework a sub-committee of the association has carried out investigations at four schools, and has collected some interesting data. The majority of the parents questioned appeared to favour homework under some circumstances. _ Most of these people mentioned arithmetic as the subject they most preferred their children to work on at home, spelling being a second choice. Nearly half.the children concerned had a quiet room in which to work, while about one-third worked in rooms in which radio sets were playing. Three hundred teachers replied to a questionnaire supplied by the Auckland University College. The majority of these teachers favoured homework, while one-fifth of them set no work for Friday nights. Most of them expected the work set on other nights to take half an hour or less.
