ATTRACTION AT ART GALLERY
PICTURE BY NOTED PAINTER A picture by Frank Tenny Johnson, A.N.A., a noted painter of Western subjects, who is represented in the National Gallery at Washington, in the Municipal Art Gallery of New York, and in many other important institutions, is at present on exhibition at the Dunedin Art Gallery at Logan Park. The picture was purchased by Mr S. C. Sutherland during a recent visit to the United States of America, and, in response to repeated requests, he has kindly loaned it to the local gallery for exhibition. Entitled ‘ Singing to the Steers,’ the picture is an arresting one. In the right of the canvas, depicting one of the great Western cattle ranches under moonlight, are the cattle rounded up before darkness falls, and in the immediate foreground is the. singer sitting easily on his horse. The effect of the silvery light of the moon falling on both horse and rider is strikingly beautiful. Art lovers will do well to avail themselves of the opportunity to see this work.
