SOUTH OTAGO COURSING

The South Otago Coursing Club hold a very successful meeting on the Balclutha plmnptou on Saturday afternoon. The weather was all that could be desired, and the hares were fast and strong. The winner of the vicepresident’s cup turned, up in Mr M. Low’s War Eagle, Mr A. M'Gregor’s Modern Lady being runner-up. Mr D. Sinclair was the judge, and ho was assisted .by Mr W. Maync, while Mr E’ank Mitchell carried out the duties of slipper. Results: — Eirst Round.—M. Low’s War Eagle beat T. M‘Lowell's Leas Worry in an even course, 2-1-L T. M'Dowcll’s Rev’s Worry beat Jas. Gold’s Rot Luck. Rev’s Worry won all the way, 8-13. A. M'Gregor’s Modern Lady beat R. Low’s Sure Enough, 13-0. Jas. Gold’s She’s a Bird beat G. Duncan’s Willie Win, 24-2. Semi-final.—War Eagle boat Rev’s Worry all the way, 4-0. Modern Lady beat She's a Bird in a good course, 2-1. Einal.—War Eagle beat Modern Lady, (5-1. In presenting the cup to Mr Low the president (Mr D. Sinclair) said that Mr Low had previously won, and if he won it again next year it would become his own property. Mr Low was a bard worker for the club, and it was pleasing to see him annex the trophy. Mr Low suitably acknowledged. NORTH OTAGO CLUB The curtain was dropped on the North Otago Coursing Club’s season on Saturday, when the novice stake for tbo O’Dell-Wise Cup was decided. The weather was fine, and good sport was witnessed, the bares being in great order, with no kills recorded. The final was not run, as Mrs G. Smart owned both finalists, and the first and second prizes were divided. Mr 0. R. Wise was judge, and Mr F. Mitchell slipper. The cdp was presented to Mrs Smart by Mr E. G. Price, of Dunedin, a life member of the association. As an indication of tbo quality of the hares from this district, inquiries have been received from as far as Waihi and Mastevtou for supplies. Results : —First Round.— Mrs G. Smart’s Desert Chimes beat Mrs T. H. Hammond’s Wonder Why. Miss A. Smart’s Reflection beat Mrs R. Hewitt’s Beautiful Pearl. Mrs J. A. Smart’s Sly Terms beat Miss M. Macpberson’s Biddy Murphy. Miss Currie’s Dad’s Worry beat Mrs J. Robertson’s Black Link. Mrs G. Smart’s Desert Storm beat Miss M. Gordon’s Serenade. —Second Round.—. Desert Chimes beat Reflection. Desert Storm beat Sly Terms. Dad’s Worry beat Sandy Desert. —Semi-final.— Desert Chimes beat Dad’s Worry. Desert Storm, a bye. —Final.— Desert Chimes and Desert Storm divided.
