MORTGAGE BILL
■ ■» GOOD PROGRESS WITH COMPLICATED MEASURE (From Ouk Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON. September 18. Good progress was made in the committee stage by the House of Representatives on the most complicated Bill of the session the Mortgagers’ and Lessees’ Rehabilitation, and 46 clauses had been adopted when work was completed for the day. However, as the Bill contains 84 clauses, and the Minister introduced sight large pages of amendments, many of a machinery or technical nature, there is a good deal to be done before the mortgage adjustment legislation is completed. The Government intends proceeding with the Public Works Statement and the Estimates on Tuesday, in order to give further time tor consideration of the mortgage position. No amendments by Oppositionists were adopted during to-day s consideration of the Mortgage Bill. Clauses were passed covering all definitions, the constitution of the Court of Review and adjustment commissions, also the terms of rehabilitation. Several clauses in the section relating to the adjustment of liabilities remain to be considered ; also 30 clauses of a miscellaneous character. 1 1
