BURGLARS’ RAID
FOUR PREMISES ENTERED (Per United Press ’ Association.] CARTERTON, September 19. Four burglaries were committed in Carterton last night. The premises of the Wairarapa ‘ Daily News ’ were entered by_ the forcing of a side door with a jemmy. All the drawers in the desks were opened, ■ the till was forced, and the safe opened. Papers and documents were strewn everywhere. Seven pounds in cash and a cheque were taken. The adjacent premises, occupied by Masson and Co. (implement works) were also entered. The safe was untouched, but about 30s in loose cash was taken.
The South Wairarapa Motor Company’s premises were also burgled, entry being made through a small door in the main doors. The till was wrenched open and a show case smashed, £3 17s being taken. The side door of Hughan’s Ltd. was forced with a jemmy. The cash register was smashed and a smaller register opened. Six pounds was collected here. Again all the office files were strewn around.
