Among the thousands of birthday congratulations received by King Ed* ward was one from “ Big Bill ” Thompson, former Mayor of Chicago, who had all the English books in Chicago Library burned. Said “ Big Bill ”; “ That’s a fine young man you’ve got there. He is a real democrat, and leaves a kindly impression wherever he goes. 'My previous denunciations of England were based on false reports.”'
