CELEBRATED AUSTRALIAN PIANIST The first public appearance in Dun* edin of Miss Eileen Joyce, the visiting pianist who is under engagement to the New Zealand Broadcasting Service, will be made on Monday evening nest in the Town Hall, Miss Joyco will play the ‘ Symphonic Variations *• (Cesar Franck), accompanied by ' tho 4YA orchestra of 40 players, conducted by Mr Gil Dech. Reporting on her recent recital in Christchurch, the Christchurch ‘Press’ says:—“All hep playing shows marvellously precise, accurate thinking and timing, and l 'her interpretations are those of an alert mind. In consequence of this clear •thinking, her technique is wonderfully clean, her speed work is excellent in its clarity, and her tone-making such that subject material stands out in perfect proportion above its appropriatelytoned accompaniment work, making her interpretations extremely easy to follow.” Other pieces to be played will be * Arabesque ’ (Schumann) anti ‘ Ballade in G Minor ’ (ChopinV. The assisting artists will be Mr Wilfred Kershaw (bass), Mrs Clarice Drake, accompanist, and the 4YA orchestra. The proceeds are for the mayor’s relief of distress fund.
