MUSICAL EVENING Despite the adverse weather condi- • tions there was a good attendance at St. Stephen’s Church Hall last evening, when the choir, under the baton of Mr A. Chisholm, presented th® sacred cantata ‘ The Rolling Seasons (Simper) Assisting soloists were < Mrs A. Chisholm (contralto). Miss N. Wilson (soprano), Mr J. Swan (tenor), and Mr L. Dunbar (bass), whose effective rendering of solos, duets, trios, and quartets was highly;/ appreciated. The choral work was also of a high order, the audience demanding an encore for the last two numbers, ‘ The King of Love My Shepherd Is,’ and. Thou Crownest the Year With Thy Goodness.’ Prion to the cantata there was a short concert ' programme, consisting of the solos, ‘ Arise, O Sun ’ (Mrs Chisholm), ‘Just for To-day’ (Miss N< Wilson), ‘.Oh, It’s Quiet Down Here* 1 (Mr J. Swan), and ‘ A Benediction (Mr L. Dunbar). Each of the soloists responded with an encore. The piah® and organ accompanist for the evening was Miss May Brown, who, as well as discharging her onerous duties capably and sympathetically, delighted the audience with both an organ and a piano selection. A hearty and comprehensive vote of thanks was moved by the chairman, Rej. Thomas Miller, and seconded by Mr W. M'Elrea, session clerk.
