FRENCH TEXTILE STRIKE
DEMONSTRATIONS AT LILLE TROUBLE SPREADING THROUGHOUT COUNTRY Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright - LILLE, September 16. Gardes Mobiles were obliged to charge crowds several times last night and 30 were injured during demonstrations connected with the textile strike. Thousands assembled outside a hall where the French Social Party, an offshoot of the banned' Croix de Feu, was meeting, and attempted to set fire to it. Already a wave of smaller strikes is spreading through France, and Colonel d© la Rocque has seized the opportunity of launching a new campaign against the Government, displaying posters throughout France and declaring that the increase in prices has already outdistanced the advance in wages. The Government to-day received representatives of employers and workers. M. Chautemps is expected to be appointed arbitrator, and the Government believes that both sides will accept his decision.
