OCTAGON
There' is enough light-heartedness and cleverness in this musical comedy to please the most fastidious critic. ‘ Roberta,’ now at the Octagon, has apparently met with the approval of Dunedin audiences, and the reason is not far to seek. The play is a pleasant one; it has bright music and brilliant dancing; its plot, though rather sugary, is not too blatantly sentimental; and the cast contains several men and women who in themselves must claim praise and attention. ‘ Roberta ’ was written by Jerome Kern, who has. with some justification, been called the “ king of musical comedy composers.” His ‘ Roberta ’ score has been brought to the screen by R.K.O. Radio, and Irene Dunne, Fred Astaire, and Ginger Rogers have been given the principal roles. The director could hardly have chosen better. The associate ‘feature is ‘ Murder on a Honeymoon,’ featuring - Edna May Oliver and James Gleason.
