FIRE IN PRIVATE HOTEL
TWELVE ROOMS COMPLETELY GUTTED [Pur United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, September 15. The Berkeley Private Hotel at Oriental Bay was damaged by fire this morning. About twelve rooms were completely gutted and six others were more or less severely damaged. The cause is thought to be a match or a cigarette thrown into a waste paper basket in the corridor. A number of guests lost everything but the clothes they were wearing. The rooms with doors closed suffered little damage, while those with open doors alongside were swept.
