HYDRAULIC SHOCK ABSORBERS

Hydraulic shock absorbers (says an expert) are given us to govern and restrain the movement of the springs, not to take the impact pf the road shocks. They are filled with a’ special fluid, and might need to be replenished occasionally. Their adjustment is to check the compression of springs which are too resilient. The proper remedy in those circumstances is to have extra leaves inserted. The chief purpose of shock absorbers is to snub abrupt rebound. The road shodk is transmitted by the wheel to.the spring, which then flexes. When it reasserts itself the shock absorber, as it were, says “Steady, there. Don’t fly back with a crash.” When a dashboard “ telecontrol is fitted, the driver will vary the adjustment in accordance with his speed, the nature of the road, and the loading of the car.
