MAORIS UNANIMOUS WANT MATCH WITH SPRINGBOKS • [Pee United Press Association.] GISBORNE, September 14. With complete unanimity and considerable enthusiasm, a large Native gathering, following the Prince of Wales Clip match on Saturday, expressed the opinion that, providing no fresh cause of friction arises, a special Maori fixture against the Springboks should be sought. The gathering was a complimentary gathering to visiting players, and when the question was raised informally by a speaker there was a spontaneous response favouring a match with the Africans,. The team of New Zealand women golfers returned from Australia by the Marama to-day. Mrs M. H. Godby (the captain) said that they had had a very happy time. Although they were disappointed at being unable to bring the Tasman Cup back with them the team had done very well. Miss 0, Kay, who defeated Mrs Ful-ierton-Smith in the Australian women’s championship final, said that the experience gained would, be very beneficial to the team. The Australian standard was definitely no higher than in New Zealand, and the New Zealanders should have no difficulty in giving a better account of themselves next year.
