After a trial run with the altered plant, further adjustments and additions were found necessary. Oppor'tunity was then taken to completely •overhaul the large Diesel engine preparatory to continuous crushing, which was again commenced on July 31. In a report dated August 20, the manager stated that the mill had then run intermittently, putting through 160 tons The elevator constructed to lift the product from the rolls to the tubemill had been completed. Another e.ovator was also required to lift the product from the tube mill so as to enable the launders to be raised to give sufficient, fall, into the, cyanide tanks. The construction at the plant of the second' elevator was nearing completion,' and the manager considered that this would enable two shifts , to be worked and also give increased tonnage per hour. , , .. '■ Two mno boxes . were installed, each having,'eight compartments and making good* recoveries, only traces of gold being found , in, the barren solution. The recoveries then were l.fidwt by blankets and ;2._7sdwt by cyanide extraction, making a total recovery of an assay value of 4.35dwt per ton. There has been a severe epidemic of influenza on the island, and at the 'time of writing a number of natives were affected. There had been a good run of the plant for the last week covered by the report, and the manager expected that when the second elevator was installed to give the -greater fall to the tanks for the sands, 50 tons per day should be reached.
