WRESTLING

ANOTHER WIN FOR SAVOLDI [Per United Press Association-] HASTINGS, September 11. Savoldi defeated Woods in two straight falls in a professional wrestling contest hero to-night. Savoldi secured the first fall in the fifth round with drop-kicks. Woods was groggy when he came out of his corner for the next round, another drop-kick finishing him. DAVIS V. 6LOMFIELD The first meeting between Wee Willie Davis, the outsize Virginian, and Lofty Blorafield, of Auckland, who has made such progress with wrestling during the past two seasons, will take place at the Town Hall to-night, and it will mark the first appearance of Davis in this city. Davis, facetiously called “ Wee Willie ” because of his size, stands 6ft 7in, and weighs 19 stone. He is a product of the Virginia Polytechnic, where he was for years their champion at putting the shot, hurling the discus, football tackier, and heavyweight wrestler. Leaving college during the depression, he did as many other collegians who had attained marked proficiency in wrestling did, entered professional ranks. For the past five years he has wrstld in almost every State of the Union, during which time he has met some of the best men in the game, and actually has decisions over three ex-world. champions. He will require all his size, strength, and skill if he is to take the decision to-night from Blomfield, who is generally conceded by his opponents to be one of the toughest men with whom they have exchanged holds. At all events, Oven those who are not overfilled with enthusiasm at his methods, which, it must be confessed, border on the rough style at times, should agree that he is one of the gamest men ever seen in a ring in this country. The amateur preliminaries set down for tonight should prove very interesting and entertaining, and immediately prior to the main bout the mayor (the Rev. E. T. Cox) will present the trophies won by the Otago amateurs at the recent South Island championships. For telephone reserves ring 11-842 after 6.30 p.m.
