His Honour Mr Justice Kennedy travelled north by the second express to-day, en route for Wellington to attend a meeting of the Court v oi| Appeal. Mr E. M‘Kenzie, of Carterton, whs is one of the All Black selectors, arrived in Dunedin last night, and is staying at the Excelsior Hotel. Mrs J. Noel Beckett has been, appointed to the staff of the Sara Lobeu Open Air School. A very pleasant function took placa at the premises of A. Smith and Co. Ltd., on Friday evening, when the staff met to farewell Miss L. Woods who was leaving the firm prior to her marriage. Mr A. N. Smith, managing director, on behalf of the staff, presented Miss Woods with a. handsome canteen of cutlery, and, in doing so, wished her health, luck, and happiness for the future. Miss Woods suitably responded. At a meeting of the sub-committea of the University Council, held last night, Mr F. E. _ Smitheram was appointed to the position of janitor to the Students’ Union buildings. The Rev. I. Lionel Richards, vicar of Gladstone, Invercargill, has been appointed vicar of St. Luke’s parish,. Christchurch, to succeed the Rev. F. N. Taylor, who has been transferred to the Amberley parish. He will commence his new duties in December.. Mr Richards is a son of the late Bishop Richards, of Dunedin. A Press Association cable message from London states that Sir Newton Moore has resigned the presidency of the Dominion Steel and Coal Corporation of Canada owing to ill-health. ■ Mr S. S. Dean, chairman of the Management Committee of the New; Zealand Rugby Union, is in Dunedin in connection with the second Rugby test between Australia and New Zealand. • To assume the headmastership ’ of King’s School, Remuera, Mr John Rees Morris, M.A., arrived at Auckland from England by the Tamaroa yesterday, accompanied by Mrs Morris. JVC Morris is 31 years of age, and is a son-in-law, of the former headmaster, Mr C. TMajor, who has filled the headmastership temporarily since the beginning of last year. He was educated at the Wem Grammar School, Shropshire, and at Emmanuel Collego t Cambridge. In addition to obtaining his degree at Cambridge, he also was exhibitionist in history. Since leaving the university he has been teaching on the staff of Wellingborough College, Northamptonshire. A keen ,athlete, he won hia Cambridge blue in Association football, and also plays lawn tennis,, cricket, and golf. He will take up his duties at the beginning of the third term on September '2l.
