JEWISH NEW YEAR
CHIEF RABBI’S MESSAGE WORLD ANTAGONISM REGRETTED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, September 10. (Received September 11, at 10 a.m.) Chief Rabbi Hertz, in a message issued on the occasion of the Jewish New Year, says: “ It is a heartbreaking situation that the old year is passing on to us. Russia and Germany are not only lands of agony for contemporary Israel, but anti-Jewish propaganda is encircling the globe, everywhere poisoning opinion against the Jew. Grave uncertainty, perhaps sheer destruction, faces the Jewries of Austria, Poland, and the Holy Land.” Referring to Palestine, Rev. Hertz adds: “ As loyal citizens of Britain, which is earth’s nearest realisation of might coupled with justice and humanity, we deem her incapable of breach of faith. As Jews we cling to the Divine promise of Israel’s resurrection in the Holy Land.”
