MURDER CASE
CHARGE AGAINST DOCTOR IMPORTANT WITNESS FOUND SHOT Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright MELBOURNE, September 10. Two hours before the coroner opened an inquiry to-day into the death of Mrs Kathleen Armstrong, aged 40, of Sale, her husband, Walter Armstrong, a railway employee, was found shot dead. He was to have been an important witness at the inquest. Dr Arthur Macarthur Lanphier, of Eosedale, 20 miles south of Sale, who is charged with the murder of Mrs Armstrong, was present in custody. The evidence disclosed that the woman died after an-operation. Dr G. A. Hagenhauer, also of Sale, gave evidence that he was conducting a post mortem on the woman when he received an urgent message to attend Dr Lanphier’s surgery, where he found the latter in a semi-conscious condition. Dr Hagenhauer added that he was told that Dr Lanphier had administered to himself a hypodermic injection. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. MELBOURNE, September 10. (Received September 11, at 1.30 a.in.) Dr Lanphier was committed for trial on a charge of the murder of Mrs Armstrong.
