ELLIOTT MISSION
EVANGELIST'S FINAL ADDRESS ; The final address of Mr Fred Elliott,- ' the Scottish evangelist, was given in " Burns Hall last night, when the subject was ‘ Satan’s Masterpiece,’ from ’ the .text 1 Thes. ii., 18: “ Wherefore/ we would have come unto you . . - but Satan hindered us.” There were several ways iu which Satan hindered.,men from coming to Christ, (1) Satan . blinded men’s eyes. Satan said toEve, “Your eyes shall be opened.” But having opened eyes to Satan’s lie they were blinded to God’s _ truth.Christ told the Jews that, their eyes had been blinded by tho god of this world. Jesus Christ was the Light of the world, but people in His day would not walk in His light. The. Apostle Paul charged his hearers with blindness--because they were groping after an un- - known God. but men and women could i - never find God apart from Jesus. Christ; -. Salvation means cowing in the presence > , of the Lord of glory, not merely won* • shipping His mighty works in Nature.- - The gospel of God’s grace was a glori- . ous cure for spiritual cataract. -'Jesus-; came to preach'-the acceptable year of the Lord .and the recovering of' sight to the blind. (2) Satan hindered men by binding r them. Samson was blinded; then he was bound by his enemies and made to grind in their service. Satan bound; his victims ■ and made them grind" in ’ his service, which was-a hard service. Men could not liberate themselves from' his service, but Jesus Christ could set Satan’s captives free. One touch of Christ’s nail-pierced hand could liberate every captive. (3) Satan bound. men by deceiving them. Satan was a master-hand at deceiving men. Ho made them believe that the Christian’s life was a dull,-, monotonous affair; but to know-real joy was to accept Christ as Saviour and Lord, Who gave joy and gladness because of the freedom He gave. (4) Satan hindered men by procrastw nation. Some men wanted to be.saved, but they procrastinated. Why should men allow Satan to prevent their acceptance of God’s message of salvation?. God said, “ Now is the accepted time;), behold now is the day of salvation.”Satan’s masterpiece was to make men - delay accepting salvation in God’s time. To-morrow may bo too late.
