TO FORM UNION
PROFESSIONAL MEN’S APPLICATION [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, September 10. Professional men employed by Auckland civil engineers, surveyors, and architects have made _ application to the registrar of industrial unions in Wellington for the registration of a union of workers covering their activities. The decision to form this union was made some months ago, but until advice is received from the registrar it will not be known just how wide the scope of the union will he. It has been proposed that tho engineers, architects, and surveyors employed by local bodies should be included as members of the union instead of joining the Local Body Officers’ Union, which has been promised registration, the contention being that craft rather than employment should bo the deciding factor. On the other hand, the president of the local Government Officers’ Guild stated that the proposed union shouldnot include local body architects, engineers, and surveyors, who should be members of the guild, as their work was bound up with local government. An an “ industry ” they were working side by side with municipal workers, and should be members of the guild of which he was president, and had already been promised registration as a union.
