MELBOURNE, September 9. The Ministry’s determination to eliminate slum areas in Melbourne is indicated by the comprehensive terms of reference of the Inquiry Board, which were approved by the Executive Council to-day. The scope of the inquiry includes survey of housing conditions, shun_ pockets in the metropolitan area, and information relating to the ownership of slum dwellings. The board will recommend areas to be cleared or improved, the types of new dwellings rehousing plans for persons dispossessed by reclamations, and report on the financial implications. The, report must be presented to the Government within a year.
