POWER BOARD STAFF GRIEVANCES
“ PAYMENT FOR STAND-BY M [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, September 9. The Auckland lileotric Power Board’s outside staff, comprising about 161) linesmen and men engaged in street lighting work, held a stop-work meeting this morning to ventilate various grievances relating to the terms and condition of employment. On the advice of the general manager (Mr It. H. Bartley) the men began work while their delegates discussed the matter with the board. The points in dispute were payment for " stand-by ” time, the hours of beginning work, and the proportion of assistant linesmen employed. Mr Bartley subsequently stated that a temporary agreement was made pending the hearing of the dispute in the Conciliation Council. The men were working under the old award, which did not adequately cover various classes of the employees, it was a difficulty which would have to be solved by the new award.
