At present Australia holds a margin of 2.84 points in the interdominion ski contest. If the weather does not improve sufficiently for the decision of the ski jump the following totals in the slalom, langlauf, and downhill events respectively will count as the final:—

Australia, 100 points, 95.25 points, and 95.13 points, an average of 96.79 points. New Zealand, 61.85 points, 100 points, and 100 points, an average qf 93.95 points. _ • The position in the New Zealand men’s ski running championship for the Ruapehu Ski Club trophy with the downhill and slalom events completed is as follows:—T. W. Mitchell (89.32 points downhill and 100 slalom), an average of 94.66 points; B. W. M‘Millan (100 and 76.14), 88.07; H. Wigley ;93.89 and 62.05), 77.97; A. Wigley (71.50 and 78.83), 75.16. While the weather was not completely favourable owing to a heavy mist which enveloped the mountain and made visibility poor throughout the day,, the interdominion women’s slalom was decided to-day. The conditions were such that it was impossible to proceed with the remaining _ events of the meeting, the interdominion and New Zealand ski jumps for men, which will he held to-morrow if improved feather prevails. " •; , i "The snow conditions were excellent for the interdominion women’s slalom. Several inches'of wet snow lay on . top of a hard crust on the championship slope above Salt Hut. The course was set down about 300 vertical feet, and provided an exacting test, requiring the highest slalom technique. It was pleasirig to witness the improved standard by the women skiers, especially when comparing this year’s form with that of a few years ago. As this was the final event for the women’s inter* dominion teams’ trophy, the competition was keen, and it was apparent in the first run that several representatives were over-cautious. Faster times were recorded over the second run. Australia won the first fairly comfortably, but excellent performances by Misses J. and P. Murphy, of New Zealand, reduced the margin considerably in the second attempt, but not sufficiently to claim the event. The captain of the New Zealand team. Miss J. Beale, who won the New Zealand women’s slalom championship last year, failed to produce her true form on account of an injured ankle '• suffered in the -downhill, race held yesterday. Nevertheless, she ran a plucky race. -The fastest run of the day was made by Miss P Murphy in Imiff 4 3-ssec.. Miss ,P. . Earquharson, of Australia, was only '2-ssec slower.
