ANDERSON'S BAY SCHOOL
EX-PUPILS' ASSOCIATION In presenting its annual report the committee records the support which has been given it in its work of fostering the interest of ex-pupils of the school and providing a yearly reunion whore school-day experiences, and friendships may be revived. The committee understands that there js no other primary school in Otago which yearly celebrates its foundation in the; manner in which the past pupils of the Anderson’s Bay School do, and the fact that successful reunion celebrations are held annually bears testimony to the esteem in which the school and its associations are held by those who received their education there.
The 1934 reunion, in keeping with its predecessors, was thoroughly successful, and the committee was gratified to note the number of ex-pupils who were able to attend. It was especially pleased to have present Mr Hildreth, the president of the association, who had journeyed from Wellington, and also the first boy pupil to be enrolled at the school, Mr Thos. Grainger. It thanks the Rev. G. H. Jupp for conducting the reunion service, and also acknowledges the very fitting address which he delivered. The reunion dance alone of all the functions was poorly supported. This year the committee has engaged the Marigold Salon, and it is expected that, as in previous years, the hall .will be well filled.
During the year the association assisted the School Committee to raise funds for the school by means of a queen carnival. A good deal of work was entailed, and through the efforts of the Ex-pupils’ Committee the net amount of £39 4s 9d was raised. Thanks are accorded Mrs Hinchcliff and Mr J.' R. Jeffery, through whose efforts mainly this fesult was attained. The association has not conducted a mid-winter dance for two seasons. It was the intention to hold a function of this nature during the past year, hut owing to the school queen carnival it was thought advisable to hold the proposal over rmtil the next winter. Whether or not one is held in 1936 will depend largely on the support accorded the annual reunion dance. The association’s debt on the jubilee magazines still stands at £lO. It had been hoped that last year’s income would have enabled the committee to reduce this somewhat, but the small attendance at the school gymnasium on the night of the dance prevented this being done. . An increase in the financial membership of the association is recorded, and if this increase is maintained the time is not far distant when the association will be free from debt, and able to consider further ways and means of supporting the school. This year, as for the past two years, financial members are admitted without further charge to the reunion social. The war memorial tablet fund stands at £l6 3s 3d, an increase of 7s 6d upon the previous year. Each year sees a small increase to this fund, and it is only a matter of time until the objective will be realised. No mention was made in the last annual report of changes in the executive. The executive has been the poorer through the removal of Mrs Matthews to Hampden, and also by the removal from the district of Mrs Kennedy. Both of these ladies were keen workers for tlio association,, and, tlic loss of tneir services has’been felt by the committee. In conclusion, the committee invites all ex-pupils, teachers, and friends of the school to join in the 1935 reunion celebrations.
