DOMINION BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS
COMMENCE ON WEDNESDAY The New Zealand amateur boxing championships commence at His Majesty’s Theatne on Wednesday night, and will be held on the following two nights and on Thursday afternoon, 65 bouts in all being set down for decision, with no fewer than 18 associations represented. Some of Australasia’s best amateur boxers will be seen in action, including C. Gordon, of Tar&nski, the New Zealand and Australasian featherweight champion, who is regarded as an Olympic prospect; G.' Muir, the New Zealand and Australasian light heavyweight champion, who comes trom Southland, and W. Howson, the New Zealand and Australasian middleweight champion, who comes from Greymouth. Making a reappearance after a year out of the ring is W. Purdie, of Auckland, New. Zealand and Australasian welter-weight champion in 1933. D. Lindsay (Auckland) contested the Australasian heavy-weight championship in 1933, find W. Hawes (Greymouth) won the Australasian featherweight title in 1933. Otago is represented by a strong team, all classes but heavy-weight bein(r represented, while Southland, North Otago, Timaru, Rakaia, Christchurch, Greymouth, , Blenheim, Wellington, Taranaki, Auckland, and Hawke’s Bay have particularly strong teams. The Auckland litrht heavy-weight representative is H. "Neal, who won the middleweight title a year or two ago. Manawatu also has a good team, and competition should be keen in every class.
