NOTES OH THE EVENTS ■ [By St. Ccaik.] Fleeting Glance was made £37 10s better favourite than Joppa for the Second Hurdles Handicap, with good support'also forthcoming for Giggleswick and Trishna/ Wfeatherly and Nocturnus led over the first two fences, Chrysology falling at the second fence. Joppa followed suit at the next hurdle and interfered ivitli Black Duke, irishna led out of the straight from Radiant Rose, Weatherly, Nocturnus, and I leetinfr Glance. Fleeting Glance moved up racing along the back and headed Trishna at the second ,last hurdle, where Black Duke jumped into third position. Fleeting Glance led Trishna and Black Duke into the straight. Radiant Rose fell at tlio final hurdle, and Fleeting Glance drew away to win by three lengths from Black Duke, and Trishna was! five lengths away third. Rnsotili, Weatherly, and Nocturnus were next. Disguise was backed down to a short price for the Wainui Hack Handicap, being £IOB better backed than Coat of Arms, with good support for Bereft and Greek Vase. Vervain was slow to jump, out from a snap start, anil Top Coat and Coat of Arms were first out from Disguise and Jack Ahoy. Top Coat was just showing clear,of Coat of Arms as they raced round the far , turn, with Jack Ahoy and Disguise next, and this was the order leading into the straight. Then Top Coat drew clear and won well by two lengths from Coat of Arms, who lasted long enough to beat Jack Ahoy by a neck. Hine Ra was another neck away fourth, followed by Disguise, Bereft, and Greek Vase.

Casanova was sent out £IOO better fancied than the Waikitea—Red Flush bracket for the Domain Trot Handicap, with Dual also well supported. The favourite went away, slowly, and both of the bracketed horses lost ground. Embattle let Pot Luck, Repeal, Waikitea, and Tap Dancer at the end of the first half-mile, and going out of the straight Embattle was just clear of Pot Luck, who took charge directly the hack stretch was entered. Casanova ran up to the leaders going to the far turn, and racing across the top Pot Luck was just in front of the favourite, with Embattle and Repeal nest. As they turned into the straight Casanova joined Pot Luck and Embattle, who was next, fell, bringing down Dual and Henry Drusus. At the distance■ the favourite was in charge, and, stalling off a strong challenge from Repeal, beat him half a length. Tap Dancer was four lengths -away third, followed by Pot Luck, Royal Crescent, and Master Garry.

Embattle was so badly injured that she had to he destroyed.

’ Hnere To mi; Blazon, anil Tnnneller were withdrawn from the President’s Handicap, for which Trivet was sent out £3O better fancied than Quietly, with Wino a good third choice. Trivet, on the rails, was last to move, and Wino led Quietly, Quito Soon, and Courtyard out of the straight. Passing the six furlong post Wino was racing two lengths in front of Quite Soon and Quietly, with Colossian next, and at the far turn Dodge displaced Colossian. Wino led into the straight from Quite Soon, Qniellv, and Trivet, Dodge dropping out. Wino maintained his advant-age-to win hy two lengths from Quite

Soon, who finished hotter than Quietly, and beat her a neck for second money. Trivet was three lengths further back fourth a long way in front of Silver Sight, Courtyard, and Colossian. Dodge was last.

Violent;! was sent out a hot odds-on chance for the Gladstone Flack Handicap, £214 better backed than Grey Honour, with Elba nor a poor third choice. The last-named and Trumpet* Blast were left, and Grey Honour Jed one from Moneygran and Invoice. At the far turn Moneygran was in charge from Invoice and Grey Honour, with the favourite and Call Money at the head of the others. This was the order halfway across the top, and Invoice let! Moneygran and Grey Honour into the straight, where tile favourite ran very wide. At the distance Grey Honour took charge and ran home a comfortable winner by nearly a length Jroni. Invoice, who beat Rose of Trafeo three lengths for second money. Elgindale, Capital, and Knocklong were next. Golden Mist, who gave his backers a thrill by breaking badly at the start, was made £lO5 10s . belter favourite than Satin Lass for the Winchester Trot Handicap, with Colleen Wrack nearly as well backed. Star Vale led lap Dancer and Glen Travis through the straight, and then the favourite ran up very fast and was with Star \ ale in front when the back stretch was reached, Glen Travis, Tap Dancer, and Colieeu Wrack following them in close order. The favourite was just showing in front of Star Vale, Tap Dancer, and Glen Travis at the far turn, and he was first into the straight from Voluntary, Dual, and Tap Dancer turning for homo. Dual . finished fast and threatened' danger half a Inriong from home, then Tap Dancer got out of a pocket and put in a great run, but failed bv half a length to reach the favourite, and , Dual was a similar distance awav third. Colleen nrack. Satin Lass, and Glen Travis were next. C. T. Wilson weighed out to ride Met'al Bird in the Stewards’ Stakes Handicap, lint-was thrown in the preliminary, and was too dazed to remount, and A. C. Mossery was put up. Monevgran tviis withdrawn, and Hon Tray sent out £72 better fancied than Cranford, who was much better backed than Epris. Bon Tray, Metal Bird, and Alma were first out and they led Silver Streak round the far turn. Alma was three lengths clear of Bon Tray. Silver Streak, Metal Bird, and Penelope racing across the top. The favourite joined Alma at the home turn, and at the distance was challenged by Silver Streak and Cranford. In Hie best finish of the meeting Bon 1 ray just lasted long enough to bent Cranford a.head;-, with Silver Streak another head away third. , Tunneller finished fast* into fourth place with Metal and Rebel Chief next.

For the South Canterbury Champion Hack. Handicap Jack Ahoy was__ withdrawn, and M‘Heath sent out £7O 10s better backed- than the Sky RoverGlenavon bracket, only those two chances being solidly supported. From a scrambling start Golden Dart led Skv Rover, Worship, Polygraph, M'Hbath, and Glenavon. in that order, out of the straight. After about three furlongs had been covered Worship was just showing in trout of Sky Rover, Golden Dart, Glenavon, M‘Heath, and Rose Val, and there was not much change in the ardor until after rounding,;the far turn. .Then Glenavon met with some interference which caused him to drop back on to MTleath, and the pair of them retired to the rear of the field. Golden Dart just headed Worship turning into the straight and they were closely followed by Daring Deed, Rose Val, Kurnpae. and Gold Cross. W’orship headed (golden Dart more than a hundred yards from the post, and was, then tackled by* Rose Val, but’neither was aide to stall off a well-timed run by Gold Cross, who got up to heat Worship by nearly a length and a-half. Rose Val was a neck away third, followed by Golden Dart, Sky Rover, and Glenavon. An inquiry into the interference sustained about, throe and a-hnlf furlongs from home by the favourite showed that it was purely accidental and no action was taken,' OTAKI-MAORI R.C. GAY BOY WINS MEMORIAL STAKES BODYLINE SCORES AGAIN The weather was glorious and the attendance large for the Otaki-Maori Racing Club’s Meeting. The course was in* fine order.
