LARGE OR SMALL SHIPS? The advent of the Normandie appears to have once more raised the controversy of the big ship versus the ship of moderate size. The of the United States shipowners is that- “the big ships are too large for practical purposes.” It is claimed that- the Washington -and the Alanhattan are finding satisfactory employment, and there is at present little indication that vessels in excess of this class will be ■built in the near future. In regard to new building, the coming demand is likely to be for the liner-cargo type of good, hut- fairly speed, but little is likely to be done until it is known what will result from the mores that are now being made in regard to the subsidy question.
