'THE SKIN GAME'

AMOTHER EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE Wbat is undoubtedly the most successful effort of. the Dunedin Repertory Society is its presentation of John Galsworthy’s 1 The Skin Game,’ which delighted another large audience in His Majesty’s Theatre last- evening. The high standard of acting achieved by all of the principals in the cast is most refreshing, and the sympathetic and intimate handling of the play reflects great credit on all concerned. Mr Richard White’s handling 1 of the difficult role of Hornblower represents a sterling performance,' his work .being outstanding throughout. As the aggressive Hornblower. whose one_ ambition is wealth, Mr White is strikingly effective, but he is equally convincing when Hornblower, cowed and broken, is forced to believe a disgraceful secret in the life of his daughter-in-law—a story which brings him. to reasonable terms in the keen and bitter feud with the Hillcrist family,- which is anxious to preserve the beautiful scenery. of the countryside against the intrusion of Hornblower and his pottery works. Those who portray the leading characters in the story are Air S._ G. Lock (Hillcrist), Miss Violet Livingstone (Airs Hillcrist), Air E. W. Lees Bullot (Dawker), Miss Anita WinkeMthe unfortunate daughter-in-law), Miss Joyce Messent, Mr F. S. Avent, Air D. E. MacAvoy, and Mr W. T. Matthews. The stage settings and costumes are in good taste, and the musical selections by the orchestra, under Air Charles Martin add considerably to a .thoroughly, entertaining performance. he Skin Game ’ will be presented to-night and again on Saturday night.
