HAGEN TD LEAD U.S. GOLF TEAM
Walter Hagen, America’s “ Grand Old Man of Golf,” has been to lead America’s team in the Ryder Cup against the British golfers at Ridgeway, New Jersey, on September 28 and 29 (says a correspondent in the, ‘ Spprting Gin !. . “ The Haig ” has been a member of every American team since the biennial series was inaugurated in 1926. The Ryder trophy is at present in the possession of Great Britain, consequently America has chosen the best possible team. . . . Runyan qualified automatically. because of his win in the professional golfers’ tournament in 1934, and Sani Parks was placed in the team for his victory in this year’s national open. The other members were chosen on the merits of the competitive records for the last two years. The competition will consist of four foursomes and eighttwosome matches. The team will be; —
Walter Hagen (captain), Paul Runyan, Sam Parks, Olin Dutra, .Ky Laffoon, rounds 161, average for two years, 72.31; J. Revolta, 139, 72.65; H. Picard, 89, 72.77; Horton Smith, 127, 73.03; Gene Sarazen, 60. 73.23; Craig Wood, 123, 73.28.
